Task

In addition to the TV reception, the TV digital tuner also supports the following functions:

Enables reception and display of information about the broadcast (e.g. title, time, duration of broadcast, encryption, program category, age restriction, etc.).

Enables the reception and structured display of information that is sent by the available stations (e.g. on the weather, news and traffic information). Reception of regional information is also possible.

IMPORTANT The digital TV tuner installed as standard with code (498) Japan version is equipped with code (865) TV tuner.

With TV reception, the digital TV tuner fulfills the following tasks:

Receive signals

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

The TV digital tuner is a subscriber of MOST and communicates with the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

Direct lines

Demodulating and decoding signals

The TV signals are evaluated internally and separated into video and audio signals.

Transmitting signals

MOST

The TV digital tuner is a subscriber of MOST and communicates with the COMAND controller unit.

Direct lines

Body

The TV digital tuner is delivered with a "B-CAS card". Up to 31.5.2012, the card slot in the digital TV tuner is sealed with a cap to prevent unintended removal of the "B-CAS card". As of 1.6.2012, the "B-CAS card" is designed as a subscriber identification module (SIM) card and inserted in the SIM card reader. The SIM card reader does not have a cover.

Special features       Diagnosis IS tester
The IS tester can access diagnosis for the digital TV tuner via the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1), interior CAN (CAN B), COMAND controller unit and MOST. The following service functions are supported:
  • Control unit identification
  • Error management
  • Read error list
  • Read freeze frame data of an error
  • Delete fault code
  • Cabling test of the TV antenna amplifier and the audio/video lines for short circuit and connection
  • Read current signal strength (TV antenna amplifier switched on or off)

  • Read mean signal strength value (TV antenna amplifier switched on or off)
  • Antenna use (TV performs long-term observation)
  • Test picture and test tone
  • Programming of TV parameters, i.e. national settings and used audio and video lines
  • Read TV parameters
  • Control unit reset
  • Right and read permanent channel list for special areas (workshop list)
