REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove side paneling in left side of luggage compartment

2 Remove D-pillar paneling on left    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR MODEL 166.0 AR68.30-P-4495GQ
3 Remove glove compartment

IMPORTANT In vehicles with CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation) or with CODE 509 (Navigation box), the cradle for navigation module (A2/30-1) and the navigation module have to be removed from the glove compartment. The cradle for the navigation module (A2/30-1) and the navigation module are no longer required, they are to be handed over to the customer.
4 Remove radio (A2)

IMPORTANT The removed radio (A2) is no longer required.
5 Remove 14.7 cm Audio/COMAND display (A40/8)

IMPORTANT The 14.7 cm Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) is no longer required.
6 Remove left cover below instrument panel

7 Detach left front seat from frame floor assembly and move towards the rear with the lines attached

IMPORTANT Do not detach belt end fitting.

8 Remove multifunction antenna or multifunction antenna mockup

IMPORTANT The multifunction antenna or the multifunction antenna mock-up is no longer required.

INSTALLING Install     
9 Install new multifunction antenna

10.1 Retrofit global positioning system (GPS) antenna line Vehicles without CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation) or without CODE 509 (Navigation box)

10.2 Route GPS antenna line in recess of COMAND controller unit (A40/3) Vehicles with CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation) or with CODE 509 (Navigation box)
IMPORTANT Route the GPS antenna line, which was connected to the cradle for navigation module (A2/30-1) on the antenna lines slot (C) (arrow), into the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) recess. Disassemble the 2-pin plug for the antenna lines, strap down the antenna line for the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) along with the remaining wiring harnesses of the cradle for the navigation module (A2/30-1) and seal the openings in the glove compartment.
 
11 Retrofit electrical wiring harness of COMAND fan motor   AN82.85-P-0005-02GQX
12 Install COMAND fan motor

13 Install COMAND controller unit (A40/3)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR AR82.60-P-7502GQ
IMPORTANT On vehicles with CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation) or with CODE 509 (Navigation box), the GPS antenna line, which was connected to the cradle for navigation module (A2/30-1), must be connected to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). On vehicles without CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation) and without CODE 509 (Navigation box), the white 1-pin connector of the retrofitted GPS antenna line has to be connected to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
14 Install 17.8 cm Audio/COMAND display (A40/8)

15 Install remaining parts    
16 Connect Star Diagnosis, select vehicle via vehicle identification number (VIN)    
17 Delete and enter special equipment in online vehicle data card via vehicle documentation system (VeDoc) IMPORTANTDelete: 
  • CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer) or
  • CODE 523 (MB Audio 20 radio) and if necessary
  • CODE 508 (Navigation box pre-installation)

or.
  • CODE 509 (navigation box)

IMPORTANTAdd: 
  • CODE 527 (COMAND APS (with navigation))
 
18 Document retrofitted equipment through VeDoc IMPORTANT Attach "COMAND APS (with navigation system) retrofitted, as per AN82.85-P-0003GQ " note under the field organization texts to design group 82.  
19 Perform variant coding with XENTRY using the software calibration number (SCN) IMPORTANT Carry out SCN coding of the following control units using the Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS):
  • "Instrument cluster"
  • "COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with navigation)"
 
20 Disconnect Star Diagnosis    
21 Perform function test IMPORTANT See operator's manual for COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
