Check lining thickness of brake pads and condition of brake disks - AP42.10-P-4251G

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
1 Hoist vehicle with lifting platform until wheels are free    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1000G
2 Remove wheel-and-tire assembly IMPORTANT Vehicles with drum brakes: Only detach complete wheels of front axle. AP40.10-P-4050G
MEASURING Measure     
3 Lining thickness of brake pads using vernier caliper Brake pad wear limit, disk brake
Make sure that the brake pad thickness is such that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next maintenance service:
↓
If necessary, replace the brake pads subject to a separate repair order.

4 Pull stop plug (arrows) out of test openings and measure lining thickness of brake shoes Brake lining wear limit, drum brake
Vehicles with drum brakes. Make sure that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next maintenance service:
↓
If necessary, replace the brake shoes of the drum brakes subject to a separate repair order.

INSPECT Check     
5 Check condition of the brake disks NOTES
The brake disks do not need to be replaced. If the crack length is max. 25 mm.
NOTES
The brake disks must be replaced.
If cracks and score marks have split open and are deeper than 0.5 mm.
IMPORTANT Check for score marks, cracks and burn marks.
IMPORTANT Hairline cracks can occur due to high stress.
 
6 Check brake disks for axial runout    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Check brake disks for axial runout   AR42.10-P-0265GG 
IMPORTANT If necessary.  
MEASURING Measure     
7 Measure brake disk thickness using vernier caliper Front axle brake disk thickness *BE42.10-P-1001-08C 
Rear axle brake disk thickness *BE42.10-P-1001-09C 
SPECIAL TOOL Caliper gauge
Make sure that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next brake pad change:
↓
If necessary, replace the brake disks subject to a separate repair order.

8 Install in the reverse order
