Trip computer, function - GF54.30-P-3044FQ

MODEL 218 

Function requirements, general 

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the circuit status of circuit 15 over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster (A1).

Trip computer (TRIP) function, general 

The trip computer provides data and information on average fuel consumption, trip time, average speed, travel distance and remaining range.

The trip computer provides the following display screens:

The information displayed refers to the point in time of the last reset of the short-distance memory ("After start") or of the long-distance memory ("After reset").

The information "after start" or "after reset" is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster as follows:

The TRIP computer includes the following subfunctions:

Function sequence, travel distance display after start/after reset 

The travel distance is calculated from the wheel speed.

The Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, or without engine 157) or the Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or with engine 157) sends information on the wheel speed to the instrument cluster via chassis CAN (CAN E) up to 28.02.2013, or to the instrument cluster via chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1), the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) as of 01.03.2013. The instrument cluster calculates the distance traveled based on the wheel speed.

The "After start" travel distance is displayed in a range from 0 to 9999 km.

IMPORTANT If a period of more than t = 4 h lies between the time when circuit 15 is switched off and then switched on again, then the "After start" odometer is automatically reset to 0.

IMPORTANT If the odometer reading is between 6213 and 9999 and the distance unit is changed (e.g. from km to miles), the odometer will automatically be reset to 0. This reset remains active even if the unit is changed again.

Distance units can be changed in the "Setup" menu in the "Instrument cluster" submenu. The distance unit can be changed from kilometers to miles in the "speedometer/travel distance display unit" display window.

The "After reset" travel distance is calculated in the same way as the "After start" travel distance, apart from the fact that the travel distance is displayed in a range of 0 to 99, 999 km.

Depending on the setting in the instrument cluster or the coded national version, the travel distance is shown in:

IMPORTANT When converting from kilometers to miles a change is automatically made from liters to gallons.

Function sequence, time display after start/after reset 

With circuit 15 ON, the time after start is added up by means of a time counter. The time is displayed within a range of 0 to 999 h and 59 min.

The time "After reset" is determined in line with determining the time "After start", though here the time is displayed in a range of 0 to 9999 h and 59 min.

Function sequence for the average speed display 

The trip computer calculates the average speed from the ratio between the travel distance driven and the time passed (trip time) since the last reset of the short-distance memory or long-distance memory. The instrument cluster calculates the travel distance based on the wheel speed.

The Electronic Stability Program control unit sends information on wheel speeds up to 28.02.2013 via the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster or as of 01.03.2013 to the instrument cluster via chassis CAN 1, the front SAM control unit and chassis CAN 2.

Depending on the setting (kilometers/miles) and the coded national version, the average speed is shown in:

The trip computer calculates the fuel consumption using the following information:

The CDI control unit or the ME-SFI control unit sends the relevant information up to 28.02.2013 via the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster or as of 01.03.2013 via chassis CAN 1, the front SAM control unit and chassis CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.

The present consumption (except with engine 157) and the regenerative braking (as of 01.09.2014) are displayed together with the remaining range in the form of a bar display.

The "ECO Score" display graphically displays the individual handling characteristics in the form of a bar graph.

The following information is displayed:

The CDI control unit or the ME-SFI control unit sends the data required for the evaluation up to 28.02.2013 via the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster or as of 01.03.2013 via chassis CAN 1, the front SAM control unit and chassis CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for remaining distance display 

The trip computer determines the expected range from the ratio between the current tank capacity and the average fuel consumption.

The tank capacity is recorded by the left fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor (B4/1) and the right fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor (B4/2).

The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) reads in the signals from the fuel tank fill level sensors directly and sends them via the interior CAN to the instrument cluster. The average fuel consumption is gathered from the short-distance memory or long-distance memory.

Function sequence for display reset 

The TRIP computer is reset in the "Reset values" menu by pressing the OK (S110s6) in the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110). Here, the reset is only carried out for the currently displayed information.

The steering wheel electronics (N135) directly reads in the control signals from the left multifunction steering wheel button group and transmits this via the steering LIN (LIN E1) to the steering column tube module (N80). The steering column tube module control unit sends the control signals of the left steering column tube module button group up to 28.02.2013 via the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster or as of 01.03.2013 via chassis CAN 1, the front SAM control unit and chassis CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.
