Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit.

The trunk lid/liftgate rotary tumbler switch detects the status of the trunk lid or liftgate. The rear SAM control unit reads in the status of the trunk lid/liftgate rotary tumbler switch directly and sends the status via the interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit.

IMPORTANT If the trunk lid or liftgate is not closed, the picture on the Audio/COMAND display is overlaid with a warning message.

Reversing camera, general

The reversing camera function enables the driver to select between the following parking modes:

The corresponding selection takes place at the operating level of the COMAND controller unit. The last selected mode of parking is activated by engaging gear range "R".

IMPORTANT During initial startup, when working on the reversing camera or when working on the trunk lid or liftgate, the reversing camera must be recalibrated using the diagnostic tester.

IMPORTANT In addition, voice assistance can be activated when parallel parking.

Reversing camera function sequence

The reversing camera function is activated by engaging gear range "R". Gear range "R" is engaged through the fully integrated transmission control unit. The fully integrated transmission control unit then sends the "Gear range R engaged" status via the drive train CAN, ME-SFI control unit, chassis CAN (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 1.3.13), front SAM control unit and interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit.

The reversing camera control unit then supplies power to the reversing camera. The pictures recorded by the reversing camera are read in and processed as color, video, blanking and sync (CVBS) signals by the reversing camera control unit. The reversing camera control unit makes calculations based on the steering angle and the stored vehicle guideline parameters, which are shown on the pictures taken.

The steering angle is recorded by the steering angle sensor. The steering column tube module control unit reads in the signals from the steering angle sensor directly and sends them via the chassis CAN (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 1.3.13), front SAM control unit and interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit. The reversing camera control unit transmits the processed pictures as CVBS signals to the COMAND controller unit. The COMAND controller unit then activates the Audio/COMAND display over the telematics CAN (CAN A). The pictures processed by the reversing camera control unit are then sent directly via the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display and output there.
