General

The DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit supports the playback of video DVDs and video CDs. Here, the video picture is shown on the COMAND display (A40/8) once the "VIDEO" menu and then the "DVD" submenu have been activated.

Operating instruction

The system can be operated using the:

Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
Control buttons of the front central operating unit
Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

Function sequence

The DVD player can be used to read out and decode DVD videos. The "DVD menu" and the "Title menu" are stored on the DVD. The video signals are output by the COMAND controller unit as follows:

Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
COMAND display

The audio signals are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1), where they are amplified and processed according to the stored tone settings. With model 221, the amplified and processed audio signals are then output via direct lines on the following speakers:

Left front door speaker group (H4/1), except code (810) Sound system
Right front door speaker group (H4/2), except code (810) Sound system
Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
Bass box speaker (H4/17)
Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
Left rear surround speaker (H4/54), with code (810) Sound system
Right rear surround speaker (H4/57), with code (810) Sound system
Left front door sound tweeter (H4/68), with code (810) Sound system
Right front door sound tweeter (H4/69), with code (810) Sound system
Left front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72), with code (810) Sound system
Right front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73), with code (810) Sound system

With model 216, the amplified and processed audio signals are then output via direct lines on the following speakers:

Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
Bass box speaker
Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
Left rear surround speaker
Right rear surround speaker
Left door sound tweeter (H4/68)
Right door sound tweeter (H4/69)
Left door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
Right door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

The video picture is available up to a speed of ≤ 5 km/h. Only acoustic playback remains active while driving. For safety reasons a warning appears on the COMAND display.
