Function requirements 

• "Circuit 15 ON" status
• COMAND controller unit (A40/3) activated via the "ON" button (A40/9s6) at the front central operating unit (A40/9)
• "TV" menu selected
• TV-antenna signals available

General 

A TV single tuner for analog reception is integrated as standard in the COMAND controller unit. With this system, the user can receive the individual television channels on the Japanese frequency band (NTSC) and watch them via the COMAND display (A40/8).

However, it must be noted that the video and audio signals are output separately.

The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:

• Function sequence, TV signal reception 
• Function sequence, video signal 
• Function sequence, audio signal 

The TV picture is switched off as of a speed of 5 km/h. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and a warning is shown on the COMAND display for safety reasons.

Operating instructions 

The TV functions can be operated by the user using the front central operating unit or the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) in the dialogue with the displays in the instrument cluster (A1). The functions can also be controlled using the voice control system.

Function sequence, video signal 

After the TV signals have been processed in the COMAND controller unit, the video signals are output as follows:

• Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
• COMAND display

Function sequence, audio signal 

Once the TV signals have been processed in the COMAND controller unit, the audio signals are relayed to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and then output on the following speakers via direct lines with model 216:

• Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
• Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
• Bass box speaker (H4/17)
• Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
• Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
• Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
• Left door sound tweeter (H4/68)
• Right door sound tweeter (H4/69)
• Left door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
• Right door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

With model 221 the audio signals are output by the audio tuner control unit via direct lines on the following speakers:

• Left front door speaker group (H4/1), except code (810) Sound system
• Right front door speaker group (H4/2), except code (810) Sound system
• Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
• Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
• Bass box speaker
• Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
• Left rear surround speaker, with code (810) Sound system
• Right rear surround speaker, with code (810) Sound system
• Left front door sound tweeter (H4/68), with code (810) Sound system
• Right front door sound tweeter (H4/69), with code (810) Sound system
• Left front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72), with code (810) Sound system
• Right front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73), with code (810) Sound system

Playback is then possible in stereo or mono.
