Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND), switching on/off characteristic, general

The COMAND can be switched on or off as follows:

Automatic by switching circuit 15R on/off

When circuit 15R (turn transmitter key (A8/1) in EZS control unit (N73) to position 1) the COMAND controller unit is switched on insofar as it was switched on before the transmitter key was last removed.

The audio application that was active last is started and the associated start menu is displayed on COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or on the SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (with code (867) SPLITVIEW). If the COMAND controller unit was switched off, a warning note with general information on use of the audio system is shown.

The COMAND controller unit is switched off by removing the transmitter key from the EZS control unit.

Manually by pressing the "ON" button on the COMAND controller unit

Pressing the "ON" button, enables the COMAND controller unit to be switched on or off even when the transmitter key has been removed. If it was switched on, all audio system functions are available for t = 30 min.

Following this, the COMAND controller unit is automatically switched off.

Automatic switch-off in the event of undervoltage

In the event of an on-board undervoltage, a corresponding warning message is shown on the COMAND display or in the SPLITVIEW display. This warning message represents a request to start the engine. If the engine is not started, an additional warning message appears after t = 3 min. If the engine fails to start within the next t = 10 s, the COMAND controller unit switches off the audio system.

IMPORTANT If the on-board electrical system voltage starts to rise again, the COMAND controller unit is not automatically switched on again. The COMAND controller unit can be manually switched on again. The warning procedure then runs again, until the cause for the undervoltage is rectified.

Switch-off behavior (run-on mode) for stopover (without code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation))

If a journey is interrupted during an active route guidance and the transmitter key removed from the EZS control unit (e.g. refueling stop), the navigation remains available for a maximum of t = 30 min. The run-on time of the navigation system starts. After t = 30 to 120 minutes, the COMAND controller unit switches into the sleep mode.

The route is recalculated after restarting the vehicle and the navigation continued. After t = 120h a request is displayed after starting the vehicle asking whether the route should be recalculated:

This prompt must be answered accordingly.

Manually via remote control (with code (816) Entertainment remote control or with code (867) SPLITVIEW or for model 221 with code (864) Rear entertainment system)

The COMAND controller unit can also be switched on or off with the transmitter key removed by pressing the On/Off button on the remote control in the "COMAND" control wheel position.

IMPORTANT The COMAND controller unit cannot be switched off if a telephone connection is active.
