Component description for Audio/COMAND display - GF54.30-P-6150CE
MODEL 204.0/2 as of model year 2009
MODEL 204.3/9
Location
The audio/COMAND display is installed on the upper instrument panel.
Shown on model 204.0 ("Entry" version) up to 28.2.2011
Shown on model 204.0 ("High" version) up to 28.2.2011
Shown on model 204.9 ("High" variant)
Shown on model 204.3 with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
Task
The audio/COMAND display serves for uniform depiction of the user-relevant navigation, control and information windows as well as the screen for the video, TV and internet applications, if present on the vehicle.
On vehicles with code (867) SPLITVIEW, the Audio/COMAND display also allows for two different views to be shown at the same time. This function enables the driver and front passenger to access video picture information or vehicle system information at the same time and independently from one another (dual viewing mode).
The Audio/COMAND display reads in data via the following connections and depicts them visually where applicable:
- Direct inputs
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) connection
- CAN
Direct inputs
The Audio/COMAND display has the following connections:
- Circuit 30g
- circuit 31
Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) connection
This standardized digital interface is used to receive picture and video information from the audio equipment.
On vehicles with code (255) AMG Performance Media, the LVDS signals are sent from the audio equipment to the AMG Performance Media control unit (N125/3) and from there they are forwarded to the Audio/COMAND display.
The movable audio/COMAND display also has an addition short Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) line adapter inside the display unit, whose characteristics are optimized for the display motion sequence.
CAN
The exchange of control data with the individual components as well as diagnosis takes place via telematics CAN (CAN A).

Body
Model 204 with code (867) SPLITVIEW
Due to the design of the Audio/COMAND display, the visual range of the driver (1) and visual range of the front passenger (2) are defined in a fixed manner and an insufficient picture quality is possible in the overlap area (3) of the visual ranges.
The front passenger can operate the Audio/COMAND display using the remote control (A8/7) (the signals are read in by the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)). A uniform picture can be output via a mono output mode.
Model 204 except code (867) SPLITVIEW
Either a stationary or movable display is installed depending on the equipment variant and model year.
Function
The display and menu display are transmitted digitally over an LVDS line by the audio equipment and shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
Variants
"Entry" version (with code (510) Audio 20 including CD changer, with code (523) Radio MB Audio 20, with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer, or with code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS):
- Fixed 5" TFT color screen with resolution of 277 x 124 x 3 (RGB) pixels, model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011 and model 204.9 up to 31.5.2012
- Fixed 5.8" TFT color screen with resolution of 400 X 240 pixels, model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011, model 204.3 and model 204.9 as of 1.6.2012
"High" variant, except code (867) SPLITVIEW (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer):
- Movable 7" TFT color screen (can be swiveled in 2 stages (each of 3°) about horizontal axis) in 16:9 format with resolution of 800 x 480 x 3 (RGB) pixels, model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011
- Fixed 7" TFT color screen in 16:9 format with resolution of 800 x 480 x 3 (RGB) pixels, model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011, model 204.3/9
"High" variant, with code (867) SPLITVIEW:
- Fixed 8" "Thin Film Transistor (TFT) color SPLITVIEW display in 16:9 format with resolution of 800 X 480 pixels. In order to prevent damage to the Audio/COMAND display, it is protected by a tinted acrylic glass lens. The Audio/COMAND display with code (867) SPLITVIEW is installed in the LHD vehicle and RHD vehicle variants.
The code (867) SPLITVIEW can be deactivated at the factory for vehicles with code (494) USA version as the function is not yet legally allowed in all regions. The activation can be performed by the dealer, however, if it conforms to the law.
