Remove/install rear bumper - AR88.20-P-2200W

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1.1 Open luggage compartment lid Model 172.4
except code 230 (Advanced Parking Guidance)
except code 237 (Active Blind Spot Assist)
 
DANGER Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating range of the mechanism when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
1.2 Move trunk lid to assembly position Model 172.4

2 Switch off ignition    
3 Unscrew bolts (5) at bottom of rear bumper (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten bolts (5) after adjusting rear bumper (1).  
4 Remove expansion rivets (3) on left and right side of vehicle SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Figure
5 Loosen left and right fender liner (2) in area of rear bumper (1) until expansion rivets (4) are accessible SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Figure

6 Remove expansion rivets (4) on left and right side of vehicle SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Figure
7 Unclip rear bumper (1) on left and right retaining strip (6) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that rear bumper (1) is installed correctly on retaining strip (6).  
8 Remove rear center section paneling (9)    
9 Open trunk partition (7), loosen right side trunk paneling (11) in rear area until electrical connector (19) is accessible Model 172.4

10 Remove cable tie (14) and expose electrical connector (19) Model 172.4

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie (14).
 
11 Disconnect electrical connection (19) Model 172.4

IMPORTANT The number of electrical connectors (19) can vary depending on the equipment installed.
 
12 Remove grommet (15) and pull wiring harness (17) out of fender (16) Model 172.4

13 Unscrew nut (18) from rear bumper (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten nut (18) after adjusting rear bumper (1).  
14 Remove rear bumper (1) toward rear with aid of helper    
15 Install in the reverse order    
16 Adjust rear bumper (1)   AR60.00-P-0700-01V
