Remove/install radius rod - AR35.20-P-0111I

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.  
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts    
NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
1 Raise vehicle with vehicle lift    
2 Remove rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels    
3 Detach brake calipers (111) with brake pads from rear axle NOTES To relieve the strain on the brake hoses, fasten the brake calipers (111) onto the vehicle free of tension so that they are not damaged during repair work.
IMPORTANT The brake hoses must not be disconnected from the brake calipers (111) during the repair work.
 
4 Remove brake disks (113)   AR42.10-P-0220I
5 Remove right muffler IMPORTANT In order to avoid damage to the brake cable bracket on the rear axle, see: ↓
Remove complete exhaust system:
 
Engine 112, 113  
Engine 137 AR49.10-P-7000L
Engine 275 AR49.10-P-7000IM
Engine 613 AR49.10-P-7000M
Engine 628 AR49.10-P-7000MB
Engine 648 AR49.10-P-7000MZ
6 Detach rear rubber mount from left rear muffler    
7 Detach, attach parking brake cables (112a) on automatic cable adjuster (110b) of parking brake See:↓  
Remove rear brake cable. AR42.20-P-0525I
8 Remove bolts for propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a). TORQUE SPECIFICATION  
9 Detach rear propeller shaft (106) from rear axle center assembly IMPORTANT The flexible coupling remains on the rear propeller shaft.  
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Attach the rear propeller shaft to the rear axle differential. AR41.10-P-0050-04I
TORQUE SPECIFICATION  
10 Loosen fitted sleeves of flexible coupling at flange of rear axle center assembly If the fitted sleeves are jammed: ↓ AR41.10-P-0050-09I
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS   Produce drift for detaching the fitting sleeves in the flexible coupling. WF58.50-P-4110-01A
11 Unclip lines of right rear brake pad contact sensor connector (S10/4x1) and left and right rpm sensor connectors (L6/3x1, L6/4x1) from rear axle carrier (1) and tie rod If necessary, depending on cable length.  
12.1 Detach level sensor control rod (120a) from torsion bar link Vehicles with AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION  
12.2 Remove level sensor control rod (122a) from both spring control arms. Vehicles with Active Body Control (Code 487) only.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION  
13 Support rear axle carrier (1) using SPECIAL TOOL assembly attachment and pit lift or assembly lift under rear axle center assembly SPECIAL TOOL Assembly attachment  
14 Remove front rear axle carrier bolts (1c) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT recut thread on frame floor with tap.  
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten bolts or nuts as per tightening angle. AR35.10-P-0010-08I
TORQUE SPECIFICATION  
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Bolted connection changed, front and rear rubber mounts, rear axle carrier to frame floor   BT35.10-P-0004-01I
15 Carefully lower rear axle carrier (1) until the bolted connection of the torque strut (3) on the rear axle carrier is accessible IMPORTANT Do not damage any brake cables (112a) and lines.  
16 Detach torque strut (3) from wheel carrier and rear axle carrier (1) SPECIAL TOOL Screwdriver bit  
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the nuts.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Torque strut to rear axle carrier  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Torque strut to wheel carrier  
17 Install in the reverse order
