Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects - AH00.00-P-5000-01A
MODEL ALL
During all maintenance and repair work on the engine, including its ancillary assemblies and detachable parts, there is a risk of damage due to contamination, soiling or foreign objects.
Particularly at risk are:
- Hot film mass air flow sensor
- Turbocharger and compressor
- All components involved in gas exchange
- Emission control system.
Remove/install
Openings through which contamination or foreign objects can be brought into the engine, its ancillary assemblies or its detachable parts must be immediately sealed off using suitable, clean covers or plugs or clean, lint-free rags.
Do not leave behind any covers, plugs or rags during installation to avoid damage and complaints about engine running characteristics.
Before assembly, check all components for contaminants, soiling, foreign objects and fluids and remove if found.
Cleaning
For cleaning, use only clean tools and clean, lint-free rags. Residues of cleaning agents and removed contaminants must be cleared from the engine, ancillary assemblies and detachable parts.
Do not remove soiling by means of compressed air, because components (for example, heating wire of the hot film mass air flow sensor) could be damaged or contamination could enter the engine, ancillary assemblies and detachable parts unnoticed!
