Satellite radio (SDAR), function - GF82.60-P-0006SX

MODEL 221.0/1 up to 31.8.06 with CODE (536) SIRIUS satellite radio

After pressing the "ON" button (A40/9s6) on the front central operating unit (A40/9) to switch on the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and the COMAND display (A40/8) and after selecting the "SAT" menu, the SDAR antenna (A2/82) receives S-band satellite signals. The SDAR antenna can receive these signals with the aid of a special antenna, even from near-earth fill-in transmitters (usually in cities). The satellite signals received by the SDAR antenna are passed on to the SDAR control unit (N87/5) via a coaxial cable. However, the "Satellite radio" function must be enabled by a network operator to permit reception. When operated for the first time, the "SAT" menu displays the telephone number and the identification of the network operator on the screen.

Satellite receivers are characterized by a high number of storable channels in order to be able to cope with the wealth of available stations. Therefore, when the "Satellite radio" function is enabled, between 100 and 224 stations can additionally be received. The stations are displayed on the COMAND display and the stations are selected on the front central operating unit.

The S-band satellite signals are sent over a coaxial cable to the SDAR control unit, where they are processed; they are then transmitted over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit.
