The transmission modes button is located in the front central operating unit. The driver can choose between two transmission modes "S" (sport) and "C" (comfort).
Different suspension conditions belong to the transmission modes:
- In the transmission mode Comfort "C" the suspension is tuned softer
- In transmission mode Sport "S" the suspension is tuned harder.
Transmission mode ("C" or "S") selected when driving forwards is also active when drive position "R" (reverse gear) is engaged.
The operations of the transmission modes button are read in by the front central operating unit and placed on the telematics CAN.
The instrument cluster receives signal via the COMAND control unit (A40/3) (A1) and places it on the central CAN to the central gateway control unit (N93).
The selection (comfort program or sport program) is stored in the instrument cluster so that after an engine start the same performance map is valid as before switching off the ignition. The AIRmatic with ADS control unit (N51) receives the signal "S" or "C" from the central gateway control unit via the chassis CAN.
The transmission modes button has a dual function:
- Adjustment of suspension conditions
- Preselection of shift strategy for DIRECT SELECT. The transmission mode Comfort "C" shifts more gently and sooner than the transmission mode Sport "S".
The current transmission mode "C" or "S" is displayed in the lower status display of the instrument cluster.
