Location
The overhead control panel control unit is located at the front on the headliner.
Task
The overhead control panel control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN (LIN 2)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:
- Hall sensor 1, tilting/sliding roof (M12b1)
- Hall sensor 2, tilting/sliding roof (M12b2)
- Interior temperature sensor
- Tilting/sliding roof switch
- Rear dome lamp switch
- Interior lamp automatic function switch
- Front dome lamp switch
- Left front reading lamp switch
- Right front reading lamp switch
- Interior protection button (with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
- Tow-away protection button (with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
Wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN
The signals for the following components are read in over the wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN:
- With code (249) Automatic dimming inside rearview mirror and outside mirror including folding outside mirror and without code (494) USA version or code (249) Automatic dimming inside rearview mirror and outside mirror (driver) and code (494) USA version:
- Forward automatic mirror dimming light sensor (A67h1)
- Rearward automatic mirror dimming light sensor (A67h2)
- Mirror dimming (A67h3)
- Garage door opener (A67n2) (with code (232) Garage door opener with frequency 284-390 MHz)
- Light sensor (B38/1) (without code (345) Rain sensor)
- Rain/light sensor (B38/2) (with code (345) Rain sensor)
Interior CAN
The signals are read in by the overhead control panel control unit via the interior CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

- Rear dome lamp (E15/3)
The housing of the overhead control panel control unit also contains the following components:

In vehicles with code (359) TELEAID emergency call system or code (348) Emergency call/Assist system the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) directly reads in the control signals for the buttons (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) and evaluates them.
The LEDs (function, status feedback) integrated into the buttons (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) are actuated by the emergency call system control unit.
The buttons (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) are all equipped with a contact resistor (connected in parallel to switch contact). In the rest position these have a voltage applied to them. The voltage difference between the input and output side of the contact resistor is used by the emergency call system control unit to check the feed lines and ground lines.
When a button (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) is pressed, each contact resistor is bridged by the respective switch contact. The control signals for the buttons (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) are read in by the emergency call system control unit over 2 direct lines. When a button (emergency call system, MB Info, breakdown assistance) is operated, the emergency call system control unit implements the respective request and then actuates each LED intermittently (visual feedback). In the event of a fault in the emergency call system, both red LEDs are permanently actuated.
