Location
The CDI control unit is located in the engine compartment on the left, next to the electronics box.
Task
The CDI control unit controls the following systems according to the input information:
- Fuel supply
- Control of the glow system during engine start and during driving mode
- Control of the injection quantities during engine start and during driving mode
- Emission control system
- Boost pressure control
- Shutoff for the coolant compressor (A9)
- Shut-off control
The CDI control unit reads in signals from the following components:
- Left hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/6)
- Intake air temperature sensor (B2/6b1)
- Right hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/7)
- Intake air temperature sensor (B2/7b1)
- Rail pressure sensor (B4/6)
- Charge pressure sensor (B5/1)
- Camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1)
- Coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
- Charge air temperature sensor (B17/8)
- Left TWC exhaust gas temperature sensor (B16/4)
- Right TWC exhaust gas temperature sensor (B16/5)
- Temperature sensor upstream of left turbocharger (B16/9)
- Temperature sensor upstream of right turbocharger(B16/10)
- Pressure sensor downstream of air filter (B28/5)
- Left pressure differential sensor (DPF) (B28/12)
- Right pressure differential sensor (DPF) (B28/13)
- Accelerator pedal sensor (B37)
- Oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality) (B40)
- Fuel temperature sensor (B50)
- Left exhaust back pressure sensor (B60/1)
- Right exhaust back pressure sensor (B60/2)
- Crankshaft Hall sensor (B70)
- Left O2 sensor upstream TWC [KAT] (G3/3)
- Right oxygen O2 sensor upstream of catalytic converter (G3/4)
There is also an internal atmosphere pressure sensor for altitude adjustment in the CDI control unit.
The CDI control unit actuates the following components:
- Throttle valve actuator (M16/6)
- Intake port shutoff motor(M55)
- Starter relay (F58kI)
- Fuel pump relay (F4kO)
- Left exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/9)
- Right exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/10)
- Pressure regulator valve (Y74)
- Cylinder 1 fuel injector (Y76y1)
- Cylinder 2 fuel injector (Y76y2)
- Cylinder 3 fuel injector (Y76y3)
- Cylinder 4 fuel injector (Y76y4)
- Cylinder 5 fuel injector (Y76y5)
- Cylinder 6 fuel injector (Y76y6)
- Cylinder 7 fuel injector (Y76y7)
- Cylinder 8 fuel injector (Y76y8)
- Quantity control valve (Y94)
- Left boost pressure positioner(Y100)
- Right boost pressure regulator (Y100/1)
With the following components, communication takes place via a Local Interconnect Network (LIN):
- Alternator (G2)
- Glow output stage (N14/3), control of various glow functions and transmission of system faults
The CDI control unit communicates with the following components via the Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN C):
- Instrument cluster (A1), output of fault messages via multifunction display (A1p13), actuation of engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58)
- Steering column module (N80), cruise control over the CC [TPM] switch (S40/4)
- Fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (Y3/8n4)
- ESP control unit (N47-5)
- EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
The CDI control unit has its own fault memory which can be read out using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
