Drive Assist systems, general

The driving assistance systems support the driver in various situations in accordance with their configuration either actively or passively. In both cases, the Drive Assist systems contribute to driving safety. This helps to reduce the frequency of accidents and their consequences. Ride comfort is also enhanced.

The following Drive Assist systems are available and they are described in :

Cruise control
Distronic (with code (219) Distronic (DTR))
Blind Spot Assist (for code (234) Blind Spot Assist)

Cruise control

The cruise control constantly controls the actual speed of the vehicle without operation of the accelerator pedal to the target speed set by the driver. The vehicle is also automatically braked through active intervention by the brake system when driving down a hill to maintain the target speed.

Distronic (with code (219) Distronic (DTR))

The DISTRONIC regulates the specified speed and the specified distance to the vehicle in front to match the driver's requirements.

A distance warning function is also included that advises the driver about any insufficient distance to the vehicle in front, and which issues optically and acoustic warnings against possible collisions with vehicles or stationary obstacles in its lane.

Blind Spot Assist (for code (234) Blind Spot Assist)

The Blind Spot Assist monitors the rear and side area of the vehicle using short range radar and, if necessary, informs the driver that an intentional lane change (turn signal set) is not recommended at a given point in time. In the broader sense, the Blind Spot Assist system acts as an extension of the rear-view mirrors.
