Function requirements 

IMPORTANT To be able to operate a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone authorized at "audio equipment" in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or higher. More information is available under: www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/connect

General 

The user has a facility for managing his text messages (e.g. reading or deleting) in the form of the Short Message Service (SMS) application. For this, the SMS messages previously received on the mobile phone as well as the new SMS messages are transmitted to the "audio equipment".

The following SMS functions are possible:

The "Short Message Service (SMS)" function consists of the following subfunctions:

Upload function sequence of existing SMS to "audio equipment" 

The SMS already stored in the mobile phone are transmitted from the mobile phone to the "audio control unit" in the following way:

With code (386) Mobile phone (on model 251 as of 1.6.2013), the SMS already stored in the mobile phone are sent as the mobile phone to the "audio equipment" via the following path:

Incoming SMS are received by the "audio equipment" via the following way:

Function sequence for calling up messaging application 

The SMS function for managing (e.g. reading or deleting) SMS messages is selected via the "Telephone (Tel)" base function, using the "Tel" hard key on the "audio equipment", or via the "Tel" menu item in the application bar, using the keypad on the "audio equipment", and then via the "SMS" menu item in the function bar. The SMS function is then shown on the display of the "audio equipment". The control signals of the telephone keys and the keypad on the "audio equipment" are processed internally.

Function sequence for reading SMS messages 

In vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone, the SMS are displayed by the "audio equipment" on the "audio equipment's" screen. Next the keypad on the "audio equipment" is used to call up the SMS entry in the function bar of the display on the "audio equipment".

In vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone or with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada, the SMS messages are shown on the display of the mobile phone by the "audio equipment" in the following way:

With code (386) Mobile phone (on model 251 as of 1.6.2013), the SMS are shown by the "audio equipment" on the mobile phone display via the following path:

IMPORTANT It is only possible to read and transmit SMS messages via the buttons on the mobile phone.

The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. The SMS is then sent to the recipient in the following way:

The SMS voice output on vehicles with code (810) Sound system is performed by the "audio equipment" via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3). From there, the voice output of the SMS takes place via direct lines to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) travels via MOST from the "audio equipment" to the amplifier for sound system and from there using direct lines via the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) to the subwoofer speaker.

IMPORTANT In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the SMS voice output is transmitted by the "audio equipment" via direct lines to the following speakers:
