General 

The driver information system is operated using the:

• Control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
• Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
• Voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (527) COMAND APS (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

These operating instructions consist of the following subfunctions:

• Base function, 6-disk DVD changer, with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

If the "CD/DVD eject and load button" is pressed, the default screen appears.

Control within the menu is possible either with the cross-shaped rocker button or with the number pad on the COMAND controller unit.

Selection possibilities in menu

  • All inserted CDs or DVDs are automatically ejected one after the other
• "Fill empty locations"
  • Magazine can be filled

CDs or DVDs which are ejected but not removed are automatically pulled back in after expiration of a certain time.

Base function, audio 

If the audio base function is activated, the audio application last performed is started. If another audio application is to be started, then a change must be made in the menu bar and the Audio menu item selected.

Track selection with skip function

The previous track is played by pressing the "Select station via station search, rewind, select previous track" button. The next track is played by pressing the "Select station via station search, fast forward, select next track" button.

Fast Forward/Rewind

The playback location is moved to the right by pressing and holding down the "Select station via station search, rewind, select previous track" button on the COMAND controller unit. The playback location is moved to the left by pressing and holding down the "Select station via station search, fast forward, select next track" button on the COMAND controller unit.

Memory card 

If the "Memory card" menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following appears on the display:

• Number of tracks on the memory card
• Current track with elapsed play time
• Artist, track names or group, if stored

• Icon for medium that is connected (e.g. iPod)

The "TMC" menu item provides a detail display of TMC messages. The default screen appears.

If the destination-oriented navigation is not active when the TMC menu item is activated, a list of all available TMC messages is then shown.

The "Display compass" function can only be selected in the following menus using the buttons on the COMAND controller unit on the display of the COMAND controller unit:

On vehicles with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer, the "Display compass" function is selected via the "Navigation" hardkey on the buttons of the COMAND controller unit.

The compass is displayed on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) by selecting the "Offroad display" menu via the left multifunction steering wheel button group or the right multifunction steering wheel button group.

Basic telephony function 

If the "Telephone (Tel)" base function is activated, the default screen appears. The following two variants are available:
