Function requirements, general
- Circuit 30 ON
- Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) system authorized and operating error-free
- Each vehicle-related service is authorized separately
- An emergency call system control unit (N123/4) communication module authorized for the corresponding vehicle-related service is configured ex-factory with the telephone number of the corresponding service provider
- The customer is registered and authorized in the service center (Customer Assistance Center)
- One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
- One of the following vehicle-related services is present:
- Manual or automatic TELE AID emergency call
- MB-Info call
- Breakdown assistance (Roadside Assistance)
- Tracking
- Vehicle remote door unlock
Voice connection to vehicle, general
Irrespective of the type of vehicle-related service triggered (e.g. MB-Info call), once the SMS has been sent an immediate voice connection is established with the service center and the customer can talk to a service receptionist.
Voice connection function sequence
The hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) that is integrated into the inside rearview mirror unit (A67) is used for the voice input. Up to 31.8.08 the signal for the emergency call is looped through the voice control system control unit (A35/11) directly to the emergency call system control unit.
As of 1.9.08, the signal for the emergency call is looped through the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) directly to the emergency call system control unit.
The communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit then sends the hands-free system microphone group signals to the service center.
The communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit is connected to the telephone and fax antenna (A2/22) using a discrete line via the radio and cell phone antenna splitter (A28/1). The latter transmits and receives the cellular phone signals.
The voice output occurs on vehicles up to 31.8.10 via the left front emergency call speaker (H4/46) and the right front emergency call speaker (H4/47) and on vehicles as of 1.9.10 via the center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27). These are actuated by the emergency call system control unit via direct lines.
At the same time, the emergency call system control unit sends a mute signal to the sound system amplifier (N40/9) via a discrete line in order to mute the other speakers:
Normally the voice connection is deactivated by the service center.
Establishing a voice connection to the service center is aborted by the communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit after several unsuccessful dialing attempts.
In the event of a failure of the telephone and fax antenna (defective, e.g. because of a rollover), the communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit automatically sends and receives the cellular phone signals via the emergency call antenna (A2/52).
