The high definition tuner control unit is located on a bracket on the left in the trunk in the toolbox.
Task
The high definition tuner control unit has the following tasks:
- Receive signals
- Demodulating and decoding signals
- Transmitting signals
Receive signals
The following signals are received via a direct line:
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g
- Electronic wake-up for Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Frequency-modulated (FM) 2 signals from the amplifier module 1, window antenna (A2/71)
- Amplitude-modulated (AM), FM 1 and weatherband signals from the amplifier module 3, window antenna (A2/73)
- Satellite S-band and terrestrial S-band signals from the satellite digital audio radio antenna (SDAR) (A2/82)
Demodulating and decoding signals
The following signals are demodulated and decoded:
- Demodulating the analog AM and FM signals by the two integrated double tuners
- Decoding the digital AM and FM signals with the integrated HD radio decoder chip
- Decoding the signals for S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial
Transmitting signals
The transmission of the signals takes place via the following connections:
- Direct lines
- MOST

The following signals are transmitted via a direct line:
- Phantom voltage to the amplifier module 1, window antenna
- Phantom voltage to the amplifier module 3, window antenna
- Phantom voltage to the satellite digital audio radio antenna (SDAR)
MOST
The following signals are transmitted via MOST:
- Demodulated and decoded analog and digital AM/FM signals and Weatherband signals as digital audio signals to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
- Demodulated and decoded digital AM/FM signals as digital data signals (e.g. frequency, station name, artist) to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
- Demodulated and decoded digital S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals as digital audio signals to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Demodulated and decoded digital S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals as digital data signals (e.g. channel, artist, category, list of stations) to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Demodulated and decoded digital S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals as digital traffic data signals to the navigation unit integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
