Location

One xenon light control unit each is located on the rear of the left front lamp unit and on the rear of the right front lamp unit. The xenon light control units are tightly screwed to the housings of the front lamp units. The xenon light control units are connected to the vehicle-side wiring harness via the front lamp units.

Task

The xenon light control units operate in a master-slave combination and communicate with each other over the front end CAN (CAN G) (up to 28.2.13) or the chassis CAN E2 (CAN E2) (as of 1.3.13). As the master the left xenon light control unit synchronizes the right xenon light control unit.

The xenon headlamp control units have the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

In vehicles without code (488) Steel/air suspension and without code (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with continuously adjustable damping), the signals of the following components are read in by the left xenon light control unit via a direct line:

IMPORTANT In vehicles with code (488) Steel/air suspension or code (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping) the AIRmatic control unit (N51/3) sends the information on the vehicle level over the chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 1.3.13), the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and front end CAN (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 1.3.13) to the left xenon light control unit.

LIN

The left xenon light control unit reads in the diagnostic data from the left front actuation module, LED 1 exterior lighting (E1n7) over the left headlamp-LIN (LIN G1). The right xenon light control unit reads in the diagnostic data from the right front actuation module, LED 1 exterior lighting (E2n7) over the right headlamp-LIN (LIN G2).

Front end CAN (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 1.3.13)

The signals are read in by the xenon light control units over the front end CAN or chassis CAN 2. The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Controlling functions

The following functions are realized by actuating the appropriate components:

Actuation of components

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

Direct line

The following components are actuated via direct lines:

LIN

The left xenon light control unit sends diagnostic data over the left headlamp-LIN to the left front actuation module, LED 1 exterior lighting.

The right xenon light control unit sends diagnostic data over the right headlamp-LIN to the right front actuation module, LED 1 exterior lighting.
