Remove/install spring control arm on front axle - AR33.15-P-0170SY

MODIFICATION NOTES

1.4.08 SWZ 171 589 00 34 00 replaced with SWZ 140 589 00 63 00 and SWZ 230 589 00 33 00 added Operation step 6  
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
IMPORTANT Notes on Active Body Control suspension   AH32.50-P-0001-01N
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050SX
2 Remove engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105SX
3 Loosen nut (17c) NOTES Do not twist bolt (17a). Always counterhold the bolt (17a) when slackening the nut (17c), otherwise the lock tabs for camber adjustment in the rubber mount (17d) will be sheared off.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw nut (17c) of bolt (17a) all the way on until it abuts, but do not tighten yet so that the rubber mount (17d) can twist when the vehicle is rocked to settle the suspension. Do not tighten nut (17c) until in ready-to-drive condition.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1005-01M 
4 Remove bolt (4) from spring control arm (17) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.30-P-1002-01J 
5 Remove nut (40a) from spring control arm (17) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1007-04L 
6 Press suspension strut (40) SPECIAL TOOLSPECIAL TOOL out of spring control arm (17) using puller and thrust piece SPECIAL TOOL Model 221 with nut (40a) M14 Fig 3

7 Detach spring control arm (17) from steering knuckle (5)   AR33.15-P-0170-01SX
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1003-01M

8 Pull bolt (17a) out of front axle carrier (6)    
9 Remove spring control arm (17) downwards    
INSPECT Checking     
10 Check rubber mount (17d) in spring control arm (17) for damage IMPORTANT Replace rubber bushing (17d), if necessary:

Extract/press in rubber mount on spring control arm. AR33.15-P-0170-02SX

11 Check rubber boot and supporting joint in spring control arm (17) for damage IMPORTANT If necessary: Replace spring control arm (17).  
12 Check rubber boot and ball joint in suspension strut (40) for damage IMPORTANT Replace suspension strut (40), if necessary:

Remove/install front suspension strut. AR32.25-P-1017SY
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Perform wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200SX
