DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Do not perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. AS83.00-Z-0001-01A

IMPORTANT Notes on handling refrigerant R134a   AH83.30-N-0003-01A
  Draining     
1.1 Open the cover (1) Model 221  
1.2 Remove radiator grille and cover over high-pressure line (3) Model 216  
Remove/install front bumper Model 216 up to model year 2011 AR88.20-P-2000SX
Remove/install radiator grille Model 216 as of model year 2011 AR88.40-P-4001SC
SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Figure
2 Connect air conditioning extractor, recycling and filling unit for refrigerant R134a    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 04 82 00 Air conditioning service unit WS83.00-P-0031B
IMPORTANT Observe the manufacturer's operator's manual.
3 Suction off refrigerant IMPORTANT Note down extracted compressor oil filling quantity.  
  Evacuate     
4 Check specifications for replacing fluid reservoir    
NOTES Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work AH83.30-P-0005-01A
If specifications are met.
↓
Replace receiver/drier.

5 Clean refrigerant and evacuate air conditioning system    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 04 82 00 Air conditioning service unit WS83.00-P-0031B
  Filling     
6 Replace the filling quantity of compressor oil noted down during evacuation of the air conditioning system with new compressor oil and route back to the refrigerant circuit

NOTES Note compressor oil filling quantity. If the compressor oil filling quantity is measured incorrectly, the refrigerant compressor can be damaged.
IMPORTANT Additional oil filling quantity following installation of new refrigerant circuit components:

FLUID SPECIFICATION Additional oil filling quantity after sudden emptying of system (e.g. line ruptured) *BF83.55-P-1002-01H

8 Perform pressure test on AC system    
9 Disconnect air conditioning evacuation, recycling and charging unit for refrigerant R134a    
INSPECT Check     
10 Check air conditioning system for leakage Model 221.095/195 AR83.30-P-1761PS

11.1 Close cover (1) Model 221
