The high definition tuner control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of signals
Signals are read in via the following connection:

The following signals are read in via a direct line:
- Electronic wake-up for Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- FM and weatherband signals from antenna structure in rear window via rear window antenna amplifier module (A2/12)
- S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals from SDAR antenna (A2/82)
Demodulating and decoding signals
The high definition tuner control unit demodulates and decodes the following signals:
- Analog AM and FM signals via integrated double tuner
- Digital AM and FM signals using integrated HD radio decoder chips
- S band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals
Transmit signals
The signals are transmitted via the following connections:
- Direct lines
- MOST
Direct lines
The following signals are transmitted in via direct lines:
- Phantom voltage for rear window antenna amplifier module
- Phantom voltage for SDAR antenna
MOST
The following signals are transmitted via MOST:
- Audio and data signals to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
- Audio signals to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) or the digital sound processor (A2/69) (model 221 as of 1.9.2010 with code (811) Advanced Sound System)
- Data signals (e.g. frequency, station name, artist) to COMAND controller unit
- Traffic data signals to navigation unit integrated into the COMAND control unit
