Remove/install airbag unit on the steering wheel - AR91.60-P-0660SX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

IMPORTANT Assessment of airbag and seat belt tensioner units in accident vehicles   AH91.00-P-0006-01B
IMPORTANT Legal regulations on handling and storing airbags and emergency tensioning retractors   AH91.00-P-0004-01A
1 Adjust the driver seat and the steering column backwards into its end position    
2 Connect ground line to starter battery and to on-board electrical system battery   AR54.10-P-0003SX
3 Insert screwdriver bit into the openings (arrows) at the back of the steering wheel (2) and unscrew the screws out of the driver airbag unit (1) IMPORTANT The bolts remain on the steering wheel (2).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1001-01L 
    SPECIAL TOOL Fig 2
4 Remove driver airbag unit (1) far enough from steering wheel (2) until the electrical connector (3) is accessible    
5 Disconnect electrical connector (3)    
6 Release lock tabs (4) and detach electrical connectors (5) SPECIAL TOOL
IMPORTANTInstallation:  The electrical connectors (5) must audibly engage when connecting onto driver airbag ignition squib 1 (R12/13) and driver airbag ignition squib 2 (R12/14).

7 Disconnect driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) IMPORTANT If driver airbag unit (1) is replaced, the defective driver airbag unit (1) must be properly disposed of. Refer to: ↓

8 Install in the reverse order    
9.1 Check supplemental restraint system (SRS) with STAR DIAGNOSIS IMPORTANT After replacing the driver airbag unit (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
