Trip computer, function, general 

The trip computer provides the driver with data and information on average fuel consumption, trip time, average speed, travel distance and remaining range.

The trip computer provides the following display screens:

The respective information is displayed:

The information displayed refers to the point in time of the last reset of the short-distance memory ("After start") or of the long-distance memory ("After reset").

The information is displayed as follows:

The display screen is selected by scrolling with the scroll forward and back button (S110s1) and then selecting with the system selection button (S110s3).

The trip computer is comprised of the following partial functions:

Function sequence, travel distance after start/reset 

The travel distance is calculated in the instrument cluster from the wheel speeds. The wheel speeds are recorded by the left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1), right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2), left rear axle rpm sensor (L6/3) and right rear axle rpm sensor (L6/4) and read in by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4).

The Electronic Stability Program control unit transmits the wheel speeds via the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which uses the data to calculate the travel distance. The travel distance "After start" is displayed in a range of 0 to 9999 km. The display is reset automatically when this threshold is exceeded.

IMPORTANT If the time between circuit 15 Off and circuit 15 On is t ≥ 4 h, the "After start" odometer will automatically be reset to 0.

IMPORTANT If the odometer reading is between 6213.7 and 9999.9 and the distance unit is changed (e.g. from km to miles), the odometer will automatically be reset to 0. This reset remains active even if the unit is changed again.

The "After reset" travel distance is calculated in the same manner as the "After start" travel distance, but here the distance is shown in the range of 0 to 99, 999 km. The display is reset automatically when this threshold is exceeded.

Depending on the setting in the instrument cluster and coding of the national version of the instrument cluster the travel distance is displayed in:

IMPORTANT When changing over from kilometers to miles a changeover from liters to gallons takes place automatically.

Function sequence, time after start/reset 

With circuit 15 On the time after start is added up by means of a time counter. The display takes place over a range of 0 to 999 h and 59 min. The display is automatically reset to 0 when this threshold is exceeded.

The time after reset is determined in the same manner as the time after start, but here the time is displayed in the range of 0 to 9999 h and 59 min. The display is automatically reset to 0 when this threshold is exceeded.

Function sequence, average speed 

The trip computer calculates the average speed from the ratio between the travel distance driven and the time passed (trip time) since the last reset of the short-distance memory or long-distance memory. The travel distance is calculated in the instrument cluster from the wheel speeds.

Depending on the setting (kilometers/miles) and the national variant coding of the instrument cluster the average speed is displayed in:

The trip computer calculates the fuel consumption from the following information:

Function sequence, range 

The trip computer determines the expected range. The current tank contents and the average consumption serve as the calculation basis.

The trip computer receives the information as follows:

Function sequence, reset 

Resetting the trip computer is done by pressing the OK button (S110s6) in the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) for t > 3 s.

In the process the reset is only carried out for the currently displayed information
