REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install    
DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. -
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid.
Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. -
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. When moving components, ensure that no body parts or limbs are within the operating range of moving parts. -
1 Open engine hood    
2 Disconnect ground cable from battery NOTES Do not connect the quiescent current retention unit; otherwise, there may be a short circuit. AR54.10-P-0003V

3 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-P-1000V
4 Detach lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105V
5 Remove the heat shield (1) at the starter motor IMPORTANT Loosen the nut at the bracket of the solenoid switch.  
6 Remove bolts (8) and take off the bracket (7) of the oil lines TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1004-01B 
7 Detach the electrical line circuit 30 (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1001-01A 
8 Detach the electrical line circuit 50 (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1002-01A 
9 Unscrew bolts (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1003-01A 
10 Unclip the bracket (5) with the cable harness (4) and place to the side    
11 Take out the starter (M1) from the bracket IMPORTANT Take out the starter (M1) vertically between the body and the diagonal strut in the downward direction.  
12.1 Check the ring gear on the drive plate for wear and damage IMPORTANT When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with automatic transmission.
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation.
 
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Perform function check    
15 Render electrical system operational See ↓  
    Perform basic programming AR00.19-P-0200V
16 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
