Acoustic warning function 

The audible turn signal indicator (A1h2)  is integrated into the instrument cluster (A1). It is a type of contactless relay. The turn signal tick always sounds in time with the flasher frequency. The audible turn signal indicator is actuated differently depending on function:

• Direction indicators 

  The signal for actuating the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) comes over the interior compartment CAN from the steering column module (N80). 

  If one of the turn signals fails, the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) is actuated at twice the normal frequency. The instrument cluster (A1) receives the information about the defective turn signal over the interior compartment CAN from the control module that actuates the defective turn signal.

• Hazard warning flashers 

  The signal for actuating the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) comes over the interior compartment CAN from the lower control panel control module (N72). 

• ATA alarm flashing 

  The signal for actuating the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) comes over the interior compartment CAN from the driver-side SAM control module (N10/10). 

Warning chime 

The instrument cluster (A1) is equipped with a speaker that responds to various malfunctions and operating states by generating an acoustic warning signal with a frequency of around 2000 Hz and a duration of approx. 0.2 seconds.

A warning chime is output 

• When a fault or warning message of medium  or highest  priority occurs, a message is also displayed in the right multifunction display (A1p15).

  Further details can be found in the documentation for the individual systems.

• When the seat belt warning lamp (A1e9)  lights up. This indicator lamp is not available in all national versions. The actuating signal comes over the interior compartment CAN from the left or right front seat adjustment control module with memory (N32/1 or N32/2). 
• When the brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7)  lights up, if the parking brake is not released before the vehicle moves off. The actuating signal comes over the interior compartment CAN from the driver-side SAM control module (N10/10). 
• When the DTR warning lamp and indicator lamp (A1e59)  lights up red. 

  This lamp is actuated when the distance to the preceding vehicle falls below the defined safety margin.

  The actuating signal comes over the engine compartment CAN from the DTR control module (N63/1). 

• When the transmitter key (A8/1)  remains in the EIS control module (N73)  after terminal 15 OFF and the driver's door is opened.
• The "ignition key status information" and the ignition OFF signal come over the interior compartment CAN from the EIS control module (N73)  , and the door contact signal comes from the rear SAM control module (N10/8). 
• When the standing lamps are on  , the ignition key is withdrawn and  the driver's door is open (lights warning). The "ignition key status information" comes over the interior compartment CAN from the EIS control module (N73)  , the door contact signal from the rear SAM control module (N10/8)  and the standing lamps signal from the driver-side SAM control module (N10/10). 
• When the vehicle speed exceeds 120 km/h (Gulf states only  ). The warning chime is canceled as soon as the speed drops back below 117 km/h.
• When the speed set on the variable speed limiter  is exceeded.

The displayed speed is used. The preset maximum speed comes over the engine compartment CAN from the ME-SFI control module (N3/10).
