	Remove/install
	Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge		AH54.00-P-0001-01A
1.1	Temporarily store basic data of COMAND control unit (A40/3) in STAR DIAGNOSIS	When replacing COMAND control unit (A40/3). Installation:  Copy temporarily stored basic data to new COMAND control unit (A40/3).
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
		STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system	*WH58.30-Z-1048-13A
2	Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key or Keyless Go start/stop button from EIS [EZS] control unit	Keyless Go start/stop button only for vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go.
3	Unclip panel (1)		Figure
4	Unscrew bolts (2)	Rechargeable drill / screwdriver	*WH58.30-Z-1007-20A
5	Open cover frame (3) and fold covers (4) of bolts (5) inwards and up
6	Undo bolts (5) and close covers (4)	Rechargeable drill / screwdriver	*WH58.30-Z-1007-20A
7	Close and remove cover frame (3)
8	Undo bolts (6) and remove COMAND control unit (A40/3), until the electrical connectors (7) are accessible	Rechargeable drill / screwdriver The bolts (6) remain on the COMAND control unit (A40/3). Installation:  Carefully slide in COMAND control unit (A40/3) to avoid damage to electrical lines and fiber optic cables.	*WH58.30-Z-1007-20A
9	Disconnect electrical connectors (7)
	Notes on avoiding damage to fiber optical cables during repair work		AH82.60-P-0001-05AK
10.1	Disconnect electrical plug (8)	For vehicles with code (864) Rear entertainment system
11	Remove COMAND control unit (A40/3)
12	Install in the reverse order
