	Remove/install
1	Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key
2	Remove the transmitter key from the vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 meters).	Model 164 with code 889 (KEYLESS-GO)
3	Remove front wheel and tire assembly

4	Unscrew right collar nut on front axle shaft (1)	For counterholding purposes an assistant must apply the brake.

6	Remove electrical lines from brackets (2, 3)
7	Cut off cable ties (4)	Pay attention to installation position.

12	Secure right steering knuckle (10) using cable ties on transverse control arm
13	Swivel right steering knuckle (10) out of working area	Bend transverse control arm as little as possible. Otherwise the bearing shells may be damaged.
14	Pull right front axle shaft (11) out of front axle transmission (23) (arrow A) and collect any escaping oil	Retaining ring must be replaced.
15	Remove right front axle shaft (11)
16	Remove brake hose from brake hose bracket (12)
17	Cut off cable ties (13)

19	Unscrew nut (14) and remove left steering knuckle (16) from upper left transverse control arm	Bend transverse control arm as little as possible. Otherwise the bearing shells may be damaged. Aid of helper required.

20	Pull left front axle shaft (17) out of front axle transmission (23) (arrow B) and collect any escaping oil	Retaining ring must be replaced. Left front axle shaft remains mounted to left wheel hub.
21	Mark position of front axle gear propeller shaft (19) relative to flange of front axle gear (23)	Aid of helper required.
22	Remove bolts (18) and detach front axle gear propeller shaft (19) from front axle gear (23)	Tightening procedure for front propeller shaft Model 164 (except 164.156) Tightening specifications must be strictly observed!. 24	Secure front axle transmission (23) using suitable tool against falling down
25	Unscrew collar bolt (21) and collar bolts (22)	Aid of helper required.

26	Remove front axle transmission (23) and collect any escaping oil	Aid of helper required.
27	Install in the reverse order
	Check
28	Check oil level in front axle gear (23) and top up if necessary	Sealing for oil filler screw must be replaced.
