The DVD player is on the rear side of the center console.
Design
The DVD player is a "single-slot DVD drive".
Task
The DVD player allows the following audio or video sources to be used:
- Audio CD/audio DVD or MP3
- DVD video
- AUX
The DVD player supplies the left rear display (A40/5) and the right rear display (A40/6) with the data from the inserted data storage device or from the data storage device connected externally to the DVD player.
The DVD player has the following additional tasks:
- Connection detection
- Receive signals
- Decoding of signals
- Transmit signals
Connection detection
The DVD player recognizes when a data medium has been inserted in the DVD drive. It is necessary to select the AUX source manually. A set of headphones appears as background image. If a video source is recognized the background image disappears and the video signals are displayed.
Receive signals
The signals are received via the following connections:
- Direct lines
- Telematics CAN (CAN A)
Direct lines
The following signals are received via direct lines:
- Analog audio/video signals from external audio or video units via the AUX jack
- Analog picture signals from the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer) via the Y brightness (luminance)/C color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line
- Analog audio signals from the COMAND controller unit via the stereo line
Telematics CAN
The DVD player is a station on the telematics CAN and communicates with the following components:
- Audio unit
- Left rear display (A40/5)
- Right rear display (A40/6)
Decoding of signals
The DVD player decodes the received analog/digital audio and video signals into analog audio and video signals.
Transmit signals
The signals are transmitted via the following connections:
- Direct lines
- Telematics CAN
Direct lines
The following signals are transmitted in via direct lines:
- Analog audio signals to the active rear display via the stereo line
- Analog picture signals from the DVD player via the Y brightness (luminance)/C color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line
- Analog audio signals to the COMAND controller unit for audio output over the speaker system
