Audio/COMAND Operating Instructions - GF82.85-P-0014-11CEA

General 

This description attempts to concisely present operation of the full functional scope of the audio equipment taking all the vehicle's standard and special equipment, as known at the copy deadline, into account. National-specific and equipment-specific deviations hereto are possible.

The driver information system is operated using the:

IMPORTANT The audio/COMAND display (A40/8) provides menu guidance.

The following basic functions can be controlled:

"RADIO" basic function 

"RADIO" basic function can be called by pressing the "RADIO" function key. When pressed more than once, it switches between the frequency bands listed below.

When the "RADIO" basic function is called, the corresponding basic mask appears. The following information appears on the Audio/COMAND display:

The following audio sources can be selected in the application bar:

IMPORTANT When an external data storage device is connected to the media interface, the corresponding data source (e.g. "Flash disc") is shown instead of "Media interface".

In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and various settings made:

)"DISC" basic function 

The "DISC" basic function can be called by pressing the "DISC" function key. The corresponding basic mask appears. When the disc is inserted, the following information are displayed on the audio/COMAND display:

IMPORTANT The specific menu structures are visible in the function bar, depending on the audio source selected in the application bar.

When an audio CD/DVD is inserted, the following submenus can be called in the function bar and various settings made:

Tracks are selected with the control buttons the audio equipment or the audio/COMAND control panel. Moving and holding the audio/COMAND control panel changes the playback position (right: forward; left: back).

When a MP3-CD/DVD is inserted, the following submenus can be called in the function bar and various settings made:

When the memory card is inserted (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer, Code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer), the following submenus can be called with the function line.

When the data source "MUSIC REGISTER" (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) is selected, the following submenu can be called with the function line:

When "Media interface" and the connected terminal are selected as the data source, submenus can be called and settings made with the function line.

iPod connected:

Universal Serial Bus (USB) stick connected:

Aux device connected:

IMPORTANT As of 1.6.09: With the audio source AUX (via media interface adapter cable (with code (518) Media interface) or via the electrical connector of AUX connection (X39/45)) the selections "Standard" and "Boost" are possible in the "Volume" menu. The input level can be increased by selecting "Boost".

When the "Video" menu is selected in the application bar, the following basic mask appears and the last video application active is started.

The following video applications can be selected:

In DVD mode, the following submenus in the function bar can be called and various settings made:

In AUX mode, the following submenus in the function bar can be called up and various settings made:

Basic function "NAVI" (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) 

The "NAVI" basic function can be called by pressing the "NAVI" function key. The corresponding basic mask appears. The current location as well as application and function lines are shown on the audio/COMAND display.

IMPORTANT application bars and function lines are not shown on the audio/COMAND display in the full-screen mode. The full-screen mode can be activated via the audio/COMAND control panel.

The following submenus can be called in the application bar:

In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and various settings made:

IMPORTANT The current navigation announcement can be called by selecting the ear pictogram (without code (494) USA version) or the text field "RPT" (with code (494) USA version).

IMPORTANT When the route guidance is not active, a list of all available TMC or TMCPro messages appears (without code (494) USA version; TMCPro as of 1.6.09).

Basic function "NAVI" (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS) 

The "NAVI" menu item can be activated with the "NAVI" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:

"TEL" basic function 

The "TEL" basic function can be called by pressing the "TEL" function key and allows operation of the vehicle telephone system. When the "TEL" basic function is called, the corresponding basic mask appears.

The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display:

Control of the telephone system is described as follows:

Searching and connecting Bluetooth mobile phones 

Mobile phones unknown to the system can be activated with the basic function "Tel", in the "Telephone" menu item and the "Bluetooth telephone" submenu item.

A list of mobile phones already recognized is displayed. This is where you can select and authorize the desired mobile phone. The "Update" entry is used to search for new mobile phones. After the update, it is possible to search and authorize the mobile phone to be connected from the displayed list.

The transmission and reception volume can be set in the range of 2 to +2 by selecting the mobile phone displayed and then selecting the options or details. Only mobile phones (Bluetooth or mobile telephone inserted in the mobile phone cradle (A34/15), which is connected to the Bluetooth module (A34/7)) are displayed in the telephone list.

You can access the list of Bluetooth devices by selecting the following menus on the display of the "audio/COMAND" (A40/8):

If the required Bluetooth device is not included in the list, you can search for further Bluetooth-capable units via the "Update" menu item.

Complete and terminate telephone connection 

A telephone connection can be completed as follows:

IMPORTANT Incoming calls are signaled visually on the audio/COMAND display as well as acoustically.

A telephone connection can be terminated as follows:

"SYS" basic function 

The "SYS" basic function can be called by pressing the "SYS" function key. The corresponding basic mask appears. The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display:
