Self-test

After the status "circuit 15R ON" has been activated, the electronic compass performs a self-test.

Measurement of earth's magnetic field

The electronic compass measures the direction of the near-earth magnetic field and can then determine the current direction of travel.

When doing so, the electronic compass carries out automatic compensation of disturbance magnetic fields, e.g. caused by the seat heaters (SIH), with code (873) Left and right front seat heater.

Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)

The electronic compass is the subscriber of the interior CAN. The electronic compass sends the direction information cyclically (every t = 1 s) to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN.
