Location

The DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) is integrated into the DC/DC converter module and is located in the upper engine compartment on the engine.

IMPORTANT Interlock circuit

The interlock circuit serves to provide contact protection of persons against accidental touching of high-voltage components. A 12 V/20 mA interlock signal is looped for this purpose through all of the removable or openable components in the high-voltage system. To do this there is a contact bridge in each removable high-voltage connection which interrupts the interlock circuit during removal of the high-voltage connection. The interlock circuit is also led switched in a series over the 12 V control unit plug connection of the high-voltage components.

Task

General

The DC/DC converter control unit is a bidirectional DC voltage converter, which generates high and low voltages, and transfers them between the high and low voltage systems. The DC/DC converter control unit transforms the high voltage (primary voltage) into the low voltage (secondary voltage) or low voltage into high voltage. This enables compensation to be achieved for the battery power between the primary and secondary bus bars and the starting assistance function at an external voltage of 14 V.

Coding/flashing capability

The DC/DC converter control unit is flashable i.e. the complete software in the control unit can be updated (replaced). The software required to program the control units is stored on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS Update DVD.

CAN data bus

The DC/DC converter control unit is connected via the hybrid CAN (CAN L) to the vehicle's CAN network, and exchanges data with other control units.

Input and output signals

The DC/DC converter control unit evaluates the following input signals and issues the corresponding output signals:

Direct input signals

Direct output signals

Power connections

CAN input signals

Central gateway control unit (N93)

CAN output signals

ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)

Central gateway control unit (N93)

Power electronics control unit (N129/1)
