| Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices | No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards. Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground. Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers. |

For model 414 the on-board electrical system battery (G1) has to be disconnected for the tests. Otherwise the electrical system may be damaged.
Perform test for remaining vehicles with on-board electrical system battery (G1) installed and, where possible, connected. Do not connect tester (1) to jump start or charging, but always directly to the on-board electrical system battery (G1). Battery tester
All test steps and entries must be performed thoroughly, otherwise the test result will be distorted.
Test prerequisites:
- Ignition off
- Rotary light switch in position "0"
- Audio component (e.g. radio) switched off
- Battery voltage higher than 12.4 V
- Good connection of tester (1) to on-board electrical system battery (G1)
If the message "Surface voltage" is displayed during the test, the tester (1) has detected that the battery voltage is apparently too high. This increased voltage can be reduced as follows:
- On-board electrical system battery (G1) installed: Decrease increased voltage as per the specifications of the tester (1) (e.g. switch on driving lights).
- On-board electrical system battery (G1) removed: reduce increased voltage using a suitable volt/amp(s) tester
Load on-board electrical system battery (G1) for approx. 60 s with 20 A to 30 A amps).
As an example, the test procedure for passenger cars is described below.
- Connect tester (1) to on-board electrical system battery (G1).
Once the tester (1) is connected the current measured battery voltage is displayed for approx. 2 s. If a so-called "System noise" is detected by the tester (1), check whether all consumers are switched off and wait (for approx. 2 minutes), until the quiescent current is minimized and the bus systems are switched off.
- Follow the menu and select according to the situation:
- In the vehicle (on-board electrical system battery (G1) connected to on-board electrical system)
- Not in vehicle (on-board electrical system battery (G1) not connected to on-board electrical system)
Confirm selection with "Enter".
- Follow the menu and select according to the situation:
- 12-114 AH (on-board electrical system battery (G1) capacity 12-114 Ah)
- 115 AH > (on-board electrical system battery (G1) capacity >115Ah)
Confirm selection with "Enter".
- Follow menu selection and then select on-board electrical system battery (G1) model:
- Normal
- VRLA(orAGM).
Confirm selection with "Enter"
- Follow the menu selection and select the test standard for the cold cranking amps.
The test standard is printed on behind the specification of the cold cranking amps.
If the imprint of the test standard is not available, select the cold cranking amps "EN".
Example: 12 V 46 Ah 420 A → Select EN. Confirm selection with "Enter".
- Read off cold cranking amps and enter in tester (1).
Example: 12 V 46 Ah 420 cold cranking amps → 420 A.
Confirm input with "Enter".
The battery test starts after confirmation of the cold cranking amps entry.
The test result or one of the following messages appears after approx. 15 s:
- Read off test code with "Enter" and continue accordingly:
- "Battery in good condition":
No further measures required.
- "Charge and test":
Fully charge on-board electrical system battery (G1) and check again (battery voltage <; 12, 4 V).
- "Replace battery":
Replace the on-board electrical system battery (G1) when this message is shown.
- "Battery in good condition":
- Print out test code and file in a tamperproof manner.
- Follow the menu and select test mode:
- Cars
- Taxi
Confirm selection with "Enter".
- Follow the menu and select test mode:
- >0°C
- <;0°C
Confirm selection with "Enter"
- Follow the menu and select test mode:
- BEFORE CHARGE
- AFTER CHARGE
Confirm selection with "Enter".
- Perform additional menu-assisted function (e.g. starting several times and switching on consumers).
Only in taxi test mode if displayed in menu.
