Remove/install brake shoes at rear axle - AR42.10-P-0165GG

MODEL 460, 461, 463 with drum brakes on rear axle

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
1 Remove rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050G
2 Remove lock screw (122) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace securing bolt (122)  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1001-16A 
3 Release parking brake and detach brake drum (119) IMPORTANT Should it prove impossible to remove the brake drum (119), turn back the automatic adjuster to release the brake shoes (92). ↓  
Adjust automatic brake adjuster. AR42.10-P-0169-01GG 
Clearance of brake shoes *BE42.10-P-1001-13A 
INSPECT Checking     
4 Check brake drum (119) for wear Brake drum dia.ø *BE42.10-P-1002-12A 
5 Unclip upper return spring (116) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the upper return spring (116) is securely hooked in place.

6 Unhook lower return spring (124) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Pay attention to correct seat of lower return spring (124).

7 Extract push rod (107) with spring (110) and spring seat (113) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that push rod (107), spring (110) and spring seat (113) are seated correctly.  
8 Remove expanding springs (117) MPECIAL TOOL Assembly tool Fig 8
9 Remove brake shoes (92) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install rear brake shoe first (92). Before installing the upper return spring (116) for the front brake shoe (92), insert the push rod (107), compression spring (110) and spring cup (113).  
INSPECT Checking     
10 Check brake shoe (92) for wear Brake lining thickness *BE42.10-P-1003-12A 
11 Unhook parking brake cable (41) from parking brake lever (92a)    
12 Check the condition and operation of the automatic adjuster IMPORTANT If required, replace automatic adjuster: ↓  
Remove/install automatic brake adjuster. AR42.10-P-0169GG 
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Adjust automatic brake adjuster.   AR42.10-P-0169-01GG 
Clearance of brake shoes *BE42.10-P-1001-13A 
Adjustment value for automatic adjuster *BE42.10-P-1002-13A 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
15 Push down brake pedal several times IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
16 Apply brake 5 times when driving forwards and reversing. IMPORTANT As when reversing while driving forwards only the rear brake shoes adjust, also brake hard several times, so that the front brake shoes likewise adjust.  
INSPECT Checking     
17 Check adjustment of parking brake, adjust if necessary   AR42.20-P-0540GG
