Front fog light actuation, function - GF82.10-P-3070LE
MODEL 216.3, 221.0/1 as of model year 2009/YoM 08
Function requirements, front fog light actuation, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage (operating voltage range U ≥ 7 ≤ 17.5 V)
- Standing lights ON (rotary light switch (S1) in standing lights position or in manual driving lights position)
Front fog light actuation in general
The front fog lamp actuation permits better illumination of the road while driving as well as the identification of the vehicle area under bad weather conditions.
During driving light actuation, the standing/parking lights actuation is active.
The front fog light actuation function comprises the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (without code (236) Daytime running lights in LED design)
- Rear fog light actuation function sequence
Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (without code (236) Daytime running lights in LED design)
Pulling out the rotary light switch up to the first notch requests actuation of the front fog lamps.
The upper control panel control unit (N72/1) reads in the status of the rotary light switch via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and forwards it via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
The front SAM control unit actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) as well as the right front fog lamp (E5/2) and sends the "front fog light actuation active" status back over the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit. The upper control panel control unit then actuates the front fog lamp indicator lamp (S1e1) in the rotary light switch over the instrument panel LIN.
On vehicles with code (494) USA version, the front fog lamps and the high beams function must not be actuated simultaneously. The current incoming request has priority.
Additional function requirements for rear fog light actuation
- Low beams On (with code (494) USA version)
Rear fog light actuation function sequence
Rear fog light actuation is requested by pulling out the rotary light switch until the first detent (vehicles without front fog lamps) or the second detent (vehicles with front fog lamps).
The upper control panel control unit reads in the status of the rotary light switch over the instrument panel LIN and sends it over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit sends the "Switch on rear fog light" request over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and, for vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch, also to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
The rear SAM control unit actuates the left rear fog light (E3e5) or right rear fog light (E4e5) to match the national coding.
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the corresponding rear fog light on the trailer via the trailer hitch socket, 13-pin (X58).
During trailer operation the rear fog light on the tractor vehicle is not actuated. For this purpose, the trailer recognition control unit sends a corresponding signal with the information "Trailer recognized" to the rear SAM control module via the interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit then sends the "rear fog light actuation active" status over the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit.
The upper control panel control unit then actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp (S1e2) in the rotary light switch over the instrument panel LIN.
If the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed from the EZS control unit (N73) when the rear fog light actuation is active, and the driver door is then opened, the instrument cluster (A1) actuates the warning buzzer (A1h1) and shows a corresponding message on the multifunction display (A1p13). The request to deactivate rear fog light actuation via the rotary light switch prevents the rear fog light actuation from being activated automatically the next time the vehicle is driven with the low beams switched on.
