Automatic interior lights control, function - GF82.20-P-2200LE

MODEL 216.3, 221.0/1 as of model year 09/YoM 08

Automatic interior lights control in general

The automatic interior lights control implements the actuation of all components of the interior illumination as well as actuation of the warning and exit illumination.

The corresponding requests are generated automatically. The master control unit for the automatic interior lights control is the overhead control panel control unit (N70).

The automatic interior lights control feature comprises the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for locator lighting

Locator lighting function sequence

To control the ambient illumination, the following information is read in and evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit:

The overhead control panel control unit directly actuates the following interior illumination components:

If the function is requested by unlocking the central locking, the interior illumination is switched off after t = 30 s or immediately, if the vehicle is locked again within t = 3 s of unlocking it.

If the function is requested by intentionally leaving the vehicle, the interior illumination is switched off in accordance with the OFF delay time that has been set via the front central operating unit (A40/9). The duration of the OFF delay time can be set and is sent by the instrument cluster to the central CAN. The central gateway control unit (N93) makes this signal available to the rear SAM control unit on the interior CAN.

The overhead control panel control unit then sends the request to switch on the footwell illumination via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) and on model 221 left front seat control unit (N32/1), front right seat control unit (N32/2).

The upper control panel control unit actuates the following footwell illumination components:

The left front seat control unit actuates the left rear footwell lamp (E17/18) and the right front seat control unit actuates the right rear footwell lamp (E17/17).

Additional function requirements for warning and exit illumination

Function sequence for warning and exit illumination

To control the warning and exit illumination, the following signals are read in and evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit via the interior CAN.

Model 216:

Model 221:

The overhead control panel control unit transmits the switch-on request for the warning and exit illumination as well as the footwell illumination via the interior CAN to the following control units:

The following warning and exit illumination components are actuated by each door control unit to match the door status.

Model 216:

Model 221:

The overhead control panel control unit also actuates the following interior illumination components:

The upper control panel control unit actuates the front footwell lamps and, on model 221, the front seat control units actuate the rear footwell lamps in each case with a 100% brightness value.

If all vehicle doors are closed again and if the EIS [EZS] control unit supplies the circuit 15 ON terminal status to the interior CAN, the interior illumination is then switched off.

The footwell lamps are then actuated again at the set brightness value for the symbol illumination.

IMPORTANT To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), with a circuit status of circuit 15 Off all activated lights are switched off after t = 5 min and when a vehicle door is opened, or t = 8 s after the closing of the last vehicle door.

Additional load compartment illumination function requirements

Function sequence for trunk illumination

To regulate the trunk illumination the status of the trunk lid rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/7s3) is read in and evaluated by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2). The rear SAM control unit controls the right trunk lamp (E18/4), left trunk lamp (E18/5), the left trunk lid ambient and warning lamp (E40/2), right trunk lid ambient and warning lamp (E40/3) to match this particular status.

IMPORTANT To preserve the on-board electrical system battery, the power supply of the trunk lamp is interrupted after t = 30 minutes if the trunk lid is opened.

Additional function requirements for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm

Function sequence for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm

The rear SAM control unit transmits the "ATA [EDW] alarm triggered" signal via interior CAN to the overhead control panel control unit. The overhead control panel control unit sends the request to switch on the footwell illumination via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit and, for model 221, also to the front seat control units. The following interior illumination components are actuated:

The upper control panel control unit actuates the front footwell lamps. The front seat control units actuate the rear footwell lamps.

Additional function requirements for interior illumination following an accident with airbag deployment

Function sequence for interior illumination following an accident with airbag deployment

The interior illumination is actuated in order to provide better orientation for the occupants and the first air personnel following an accident.

The "crash event" information is sent by the restraint system control unit to the chassis CAN and forwarded by the central gateway control unit to the interior CAN.

The overhead control panel control unit receives this information, then sends the request to switch on the footwell illumination via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit and, if necessary, also to the front seat control units.

The following interior illumination components are actuated:

The upper control panel control unit actuates the front footwell lamps. The front seat control units actuate the rear footwell lamps. The interior illumination function following an accident with airbag deployment is deactivated under the following conditions:
