Use the 
puller (01) with the special tool number 221 589 05 33 00 for model 204, 207, 212 to pry off the tie rod joint (5) with stainless-steel race.
Use the
puller (01) with the special tool number 221 589 00 33 00 for model 172, 204, 212, 218 to pry off the tie rod joint (5) without stainless-steel race.
To check the variant: Clean the rubber boot and contact surface on the steering knuckle (7) if necessary.
Pushing off
- Unscrew self-locking nut from tie rod joint (5).
- Mount
puller (01) with
thrust piece (02) and
press (03) on tie rod joint (5) and steering knuckle (7).

- Push tie rod joint (5) off steering knuckle (7) using
puller (01),
thrust piece (02) and
press (03).
Turn the steering and make sure that the
puller (01) is seated correctly on the tie rod joint (5) and on the
thrust piece (02). If not seated correctly, the race of the tie rod will be damaged, resulting in irreparable damage to the tie rod.
- Remove
puller (01),
thrust piece (02) and
press (03) from tie rod joint (5).
Attaching
- Clean cone and thread on tie rod joint (5) and mount on steering knuckle (7).
There must not be any grease or oil on the cone, thread or mount. The tie rod joint (5) can otherwise work loose.
- Attach self-locking nut to tie rod joint (5).
If necessary, counterhold the tie rod joint (5) using an Allen wrench. Observe specified tightening torque.
