	Removing
Danger!	Risk of injury to skin or eyes caused by hydraulic fluid spraying out under high pressure. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing hydraulic fluid	Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. 		Before opening the hydraulic circuit of the power steering, thoroughly clean the surrounding area of the separation point. Even minute particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can result in malfunctions and damage to the power steering.
1	Switch off ignition
2.1	Remove upper engine cover	Engine 642 In order to avoid damage, put upper engine cover down on padded base.
2.2	Remove front engine cover	Engine 156, 276 In order to prevent damage, lift the front engine cover straight up without tilting it and place it down on a padded base.
2.3	Remove cylinder head cover trim	Engine 646, 651 without EHPS

3	Remove cap (1) of power steering expansion reservoir (2)	Press the cap (1) downwards and turn counterclockwise through 90°.
4	Wipe off oil dipstick (1a) with a fluff-free rag and seal the expansion reservoir (2) with cap (1)	EC Press the cap (1) downwards and turn clockwise through 90°.
	Checking
5	Remove the cap (1) again and read off the oil level on the oil dipstick (1a), correct the oil level if necessary	Observe oil temperature and markings on oil dipstick (1a). The oil level must be located on the maximum marking corresponding to the oil temperature.
		In order to avoid measurement errors, hold the oil dipstick (1a) upright.
		If the fluid level is too low, determine cause and eliminate subject to a separate order.

	Install
6	Seal expansion reservoir (2) with cap (1)
7.1	Install upper engine cover	Engine 642: Ignition switched off.
7.2	Fit front engine cover	Engine 156, 276
7.3	Install trim panel of cylinder head cover	Engine 646, 651 without EHPS
