The air shutoff valves are located at the front on the engine.

Task

The air shutoff valves release the way for injected air for actuation of air injection.

When air injection is switched off air is prevented from being inducted into the exhaust ports, as a result of the flow of the exhaust gases.

Both air shutoff valves are actuated simultaneously for released air injection, via the air pump switchover valve, with vacuum from the variable intake manifold. The air shutoff valves open and the injected air from the electric air pump can flow into the exhaust ducts of the cylinder heads.

The integral check valves, for a switched of air injection, prevent ingress of exhaust gas into the air shutoff valves and protect them in this way from soiling and thermal destruction.
