Location 

The parking system control unit is located at the front in the front passenger footwell under the carpet on an equipment carrier.

Task 

The parking system control unit is responsible for the following tasks:

• Control of systems 
• Reading in of sensors 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Actuating components 

Control of systems 

The parking system control unit actuates the PARKTRONIC functions (with code (220) PARKTRONIC) or the exclusive parking assist functions (with code (230) Exclusive parking assist).

Reading in of sensors 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Body CAN (CAN B) (with code (220) PARKTRONIC) 
• Chassis CAN (CAN E) (with code (230) Exclusive parking assist) 

Direct line 

The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:

• Outer left front parking system distance sensor (B8/1)
• Center left front parking system distance sensor (B8/2)
• Inner left front parking system distance sensor (B8/3)
• Inner right front parking system distance sensor (B8/4)
• Center right front parking system distance sensor (B8/5)
• Outer right front parking system distance sensor (B8/6)
• Outer right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/7)
• Inner right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/8)
• Inner left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/9)
• Outer left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/10)

Interior CAN (with code (220) PARKTRONIC) 

The following signals are read in over the interior CAN:

• By the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1):
  • Parking system button status (N72/1s8)
  • Light sensor status (B38/1) (without code (345) Rain sensor)
  • Rain/light sensor status (B38/2) (with code (345) Rain sensor)
  • Parking brake indicator switch status (S12)
  • Backup lamp switch status (S16/2) (for model 204.0/2 with transmission 711, 716)
  • Status of gear range (with transmission 722) sent by CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine)
• Provided by instrument cluster (A1):
  • Vehicle speed signal
• Provided by trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) (with code (550) Trailer hitch):
  • "Trailer detected" status message
• Provided by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4):

• Left front axle RPM sensor signal (L6/1)
• Right front axle RPM sensor signal (L6/2)
• Left rear axle RPM sensor signal (L6/3)
• Right rear axle RPM sensor signal (L6/4)

Chassis CAN 

(With code (230) Exclusive parking assist) 

The following information is read-in over chassis CAN:

• Sent by front SAM control unit:
  • Status of parking brake indicator switch
  • Rain/light sensor data
  • Parking system button status
  • Status of backup lamp switch (with transmission 711, 716)
  • "Trailer detected" status message
  • Vehicle speed signal
• Sent from CDI control unit or ME-SFI [ME] control unit:
  • Status of gear range (with transmission 722)
• Provided by the Electronic Stability Program control unit:

• Signals of left front axle RPM sensor
• Signals of right front axle RPM sensor
• Signals of left rear axle RPM sensor
• Signals of right rear axle RPM sensor

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Component actuation 

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN (with code (220) PARKTRONIC) 
• Chassis CAN (with code (230) Exclusive parking assist) 

Direct line 

The following components are actuated via a direct line:

• Rear parking system warning indicator (A44/3)
• Instrument panel parking system warning indicator (A44/4)
• Parking system distance sensors

Interior CAN (with code (220) PARKTRONIC) 

The following information is sent over the interior CAN:

• Parking system status indication button

Chassis CAN (with code (230) Exclusive parking assist) 

The following information is sent over the chassis CAN:

• Parking system status indication button
