Location 

The radio is located in the center console.

Task 

Central operating and display unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle 

The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface, which is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display.

IMPORTANT With navigation activated with the "NAVI" button (with code (509) Navigation box), the user surface is generated in the navigation module (A2/30) not in the radio. The function and menu guidance are provided by the manufacturer and are not specific for Mercedes-Benz.

Reading in the controls and input signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) 

The radio receives control and audio signals from the following control units:

Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN) 

The radio is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).

Direct lines 

The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box the "NAVI" button on the left keypad has been replaced by the "Tone" button (music symbols).

Function 

The buttons for the operating panels on the radio are read in and made available to the integrated central computer. Button actuation is processed further in the central computer. If the "ON" button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume for the audio sources is regulated on the "ON" button by turning.

Pressing the function keys in the left button panel enables the user to switch to the desired system components.

CD drive or CD changer with integrated CD drive 

The integrated CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including in MP3 format).
