Location 

The control and operating unit is located in the center console.

Task 

The control and operating unit actuates all functions required for climate control in the vehicle.

Design 

The control and operating unit contains the following controls and displays:

IMPORTANT On USA ONLY vehicles, the REST button is not present. The MAX A/C button is installed instead.

The control and operating unit enables the following operations: 

The control and operating unit takes over the following actuations: 

Via interior CAN: 

Via front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)

Via climate control LIN: 

Direct: 

The following sensors are read in by the control and operating unit: 

Control possibilities 

ON/OFF button 

The automatic air conditioning can be completely switched off and on by pressing the on/off button.

Temperature selector wheel 

The desired temperature setting for the left and right sides can be set by turning the associated temperature selector wheel. The selected specified temperature is displayed via LEDs on the border of the temperature selector wheel.

Air volume button 

Pressing the respective air volume button enables the air volume to be manually selected.

The selected setting is shown on the display.

Air distribution button 

The air distribution can be manually set for the respective side via the air distribution buttons. The selected air distribution setting is shown on the display.

Automatic button 

The air volume and air distribution are regulated automatically when the automatic button is pressed. When the automatic mode is activated, the indicator LED comes on.

A/C button 

Pressing the A/C button switches off the refrigerant compressor. All other functions are retained.

The function LED comes on when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.

Rear window heater button 

Pressing the rear window heater button switches on the rear window heater; at the same time, the function LED in the rear window heater button is switched on.

Mono button 

When the MONO button is pressed, the values for air distribution and temperature set on the driver side are adopted for the passenger side.

Air recirculation mode button 

When the air recirculation mode button is pressed briefly (t < 1.5 s), the main air flap is closed to prevent air entering from outside. The function LED is illuminated during operation. If pressed for longer than t > 1.5 s, the control and operating unit transmits the "Air recirculation closing" or "Air recirculation opening" command via the interior CAN.

The side windows and the tilting/sliding roof (with code (414) Electric tilting/sliding roof in glass design) or the panoramic glass sunroof (with code (413) Panoramic glass sunroof with top sliding sunroof) are then closed or opened.

Defrosting button 

Pressing the defrosting button sets the temperature to "maximum" and the distributes the air flow to the defroster vents. All the other flaps are closed. The blower output is regulated to match the coolant temperature. The function LED in the defrosting button illuminates.

REST button 

Pressing the REST button activates the residual engine heat utilization function. When the function is activated, the function LED comes on.

MAX A/C button 

Pressing the MAX A/C button raises the basic ventilation level to 100%.
