Location
The radio is located in the center console.
Task
- Central operating unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
- Reading in the controls and input signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Activation of output media and system components
Central operating and display unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface, which is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display.
With navigation activated with the "NAVI" button (with code (509) Navigation box), the user surface is generated in the navigation module (A2/30) not in the radio. The function and menu guidance are provided by the manufacturer and are not specific for Mercedes-Benz.
Reading in the controls and input signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The radio receives control and audio signals from the following control units:
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (with code (537) Digital radio)
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR) control unit (N87/5) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with code (518) Media interface)
Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
The radio is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).
Direct lines
The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:
- Circuit 30g
- Circuit 31
- Wake-up for MOST
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Handsfree system microphone (A67b1)
- Telephone mute (with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system)
- Electrical USB connector (X115) (in stowage compartment (telephone compartment) below center armrest)
- Electrical AUX connector (X39/45) (in stowage compartment (telephone compartment) below center armrest, for external audio equipment) (except code (518) Media interface)
- FM, AM and CL antenna amplifier (A2/18), on model 204.0/3
- Antenna amplifier 1 for rear window (A2/71), on model 204.2
- Rear window FM antenna amplifier (A2/19), on model 204.0/2/3
- - Cradle for navigation module (A2/30-1) (with code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box) (in glove compartment)
- - External fan (diagnosis)
Evaluation of input factors
The input values are processed in the radio.
Activation of output media and system components
The following direct output signals are possible:
- Audio output (speaker) (except code (810) Sound system)
- Switching voltage for mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via the contact plate and the Bluetooth module (A34/7) (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- Microphone output to cradle for navigation module (with code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box)
- - External fan (power supply, speed control and diagnosis)
A structured and uniform interface is provided for the following system components:
- Audio system (e.g. "Radio", "CD" (also MP3), AUX)
- - Communication system (e.g. telephone with telephone book function)
- - sound settings (e.g. "bass", "treble", "fader", "balance")
- - System settings (e.g. "brightness" and "contrast" of the audio/COMAND display)
Design
Shown with code (510) Audio 20 including CD changer and code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box
On vehicles except code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box the "NAVI" button on the left keypad has been replaced by the "Tone" button (music symbols).
Function
The buttons for the operating panels on the radio are read in and made available to the integrated central computer. Button actuation is processed further in the central computer. If the "ON" button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume for the audio sources is regulated on the "ON" button by turning.
Pressing the function keys in the left button panel enables the user to switch to the desired system components.
CD drive or CD changer with integrated CD drive
The integrated CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including in MP3 format).
