MODEL 204.2 with CODE (523) MB Audio 20 radio as of model year 2009 /YoM 08
MODEL 204.3 /9 with CODE (523) MB Audio 20 radio except CODE (494) USA version
Shown on model 204.0 up to 28.2.2011
The design versions of the radio on model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011 are described in the chapter "Body".
Location
The radio is located in the center console.
Shown on model 204.3 except code (508) Navigation box preinstallation, except code (509) Navigation box
The design versions of the radio on model 204.3. as of are described in the chapter "Body".
Task
- Central operating unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
- Reading in the controls and input signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuates output media
Central operating and display unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface.
- RADIO (FM, MW, SW, LW)
- DISK (CD/MP3/AUX)
- TEL (telephone with telephone book function, SMS (with code (386) Mobile phone), call lists)
With navigation activated with the "NAVI" button (with code (509) Navigation box), the user surface is generated in the navigation module (A2/30) not in the radio. The function and menu guidance are provided by the manufacturer and are not specific for Mercedes-Benz.
Reading in the controls and input signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
- Direct line
Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
The radio is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).
Direct line
The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:
- Circuit 30g
- Circuit 31
- FM, AM and CL antenna amplifier (A2/18), on model 204.0/3
- Rear window antenna amplifier 1 (A2/71), for model 204.2/9
- Rear window FM antenna amplifier (A2/19), on model 204.0/2/3 and on model 204.9
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Handsfree system microphone (A67b1)
- Electrical AUX connector (X39/45) (up to 28.2.2011 in glove compartment, as of 1.3.2011 in stowage compartment (telephone compartment) below center console)
- Electrical USB connector (X115), model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011, model 204.3
- Cradle for navigation module (A2/30-1) (with code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box) (in glove compartment)
- External fan (diagnosis)
Evaluation of input factors
The input values are processed in the radio.
Actuates output media
The following direct output signals are possible:
- Audio Out (speaker)
- Video OUT: low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line, transmits picture signals from the COMAND controller unit to the Audio/COMAND display via a copper line
- Switch voltage for the mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via the contact plate and the Bluetooth module (A34/7), with code (386) Comfort telephony
- External fan (power supply, speed control and diagnosis)
The radio generates a structured and standard interface, which is then shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
Body
Shown on radio up to 28.2.11 (except code (508) Navigation box preinstallation, except code (509) Navigation box)
On vehicles with code (508) Navigation box preinstallation or code (509) Navigation box, the "NAVI" button on the left keypad has been replaced by the "Tone" button (music symbols).
Design deviations: on model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011 and model 204.3 the "SYS" button on left keypad also has a clock symbol and the "C" button the left edge of the right keypad is a "CLEAR" key.
Function
The buttons for the operating panels on the radio are read in and made available to the integrated central computer. Button actuation is processed further in the central computer. If the "ON" button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume is regulated for each audio source set by turning the ON button. Pressing the function keys in the left button panel enables the user to switch to the desired system components.
CD drive
The integrated CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including in MP3 format).
