NOTE:
The following work instructions describe the procedure for the online software calibration number (SCN) coding with Xentry Flash. The SCN coding data can be requested by fax from the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk". For the Off-line fallback process Daimler ERG reserves the right to invoice 9 EUR per fax query. NOTE:
The offline SCN coding is broken down into 2 steps:A) Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding. The vehicle data is required when filling out the fax form for ordering the SCN coding data from the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk".
B) Perform SCN coding. Coding is carried out with the SCN coding data from the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk".
A) Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding
Select the control unit in Xentry Diagnostics (XD).
Select menu item "control unit adaptations" or "initial startup".
Select menu item "SCN coding".
Select "Offline (STAR DIAGNOSIS device not networked)" menu item.
Confirm note on sequence of SCN coding.
Fill in fax form completely and print out.
NOTE:
If an email address is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per email. If a fax number is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per fax.
Send the printed-out fax form to the fax number given for the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk".
B) Perform SCN coding
NOTE:
If the SCN coding data is received by email, burn the data to a CD or save the data on a USB removable storage device and mark accordingly. Unpack the Zip files first when doing so.
In XD, select the menu item "Step 2: Perform SCN coding".

Insert CD or connect USB removable storage device.
For SCN coding data per email.
NOTE:
To change control units to write mode for SCN coding, an unlocking code (key) is required for the respective control unit. If the regular "Xentry flash" online procedures are used, this is automated and queried without user intervention at the central systems. In the offline fallback solution, the user is prompted by XD to ask for the activation code by phone from the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk". A detailed process description can be found in the INFO information system.
Enter SCN coding data manually in "Star Diagnosis" diagnostic system.
For SCN coding data per fax.
Import the data via CD or USB removable storage
For SCN coding data per email.
Perform SCN coding.
Switch ignition on/off.

Print out order log and enclose repair order.
The job report can also be stored in "Star Diagnosis". This is done via the print menu "Print to file". In "StarUtilities", the "StarPad" program can be used to display and printout the job reports at the Logs" menu item.
NOTE:
The SCN coding of the control unit is completed. Scrap the CD following successful SCN coding as per the guidelines for theft-relevant parts (DTR 69/00). The disposal process is to be documented on the repair order. The data on the USB removable storage device are to be deleted properly once they have been used.
