Instrument cluster (IC), function - GF54.30-P-0002RC

MODEL 171.4 as of model year 09 /YoM 08 model refinement package

Instrument cluster (A1)  , general The instrument cluster serves to display all dynamic and static vehicle conditions and provides the driver with information about the systems fitted to the vehicle. Furthermore, the instrument cluster realizes warnings in the event of faulty or safety-relevant vehicle functions.

The following displays are incorporated in the instrument cluster in order to be able to convey information to the driver:  Permanent displays (e.g. vehicle speed, rotational speed, tank contents) - Indicator lamps (green, yellow or blue) (e.g. turn signals, high beams) - Warning lamps (red) (e.g. coolant level, brake fluid level) - Upper multifunction display (A1p13) (e.g. travel distance display) - Lower multifunction display (A1p15) (e.g. outside temperature indicator).

The instrument cluster makes possible the following functions:  Activate instrument cluster function sequence, Indicator lamp test function sequence The following function sequences are also possible; they are described in separate documents:  Indicator/warning messages, Workshop level settings, Display operating conditions, Comfort displays, Trip computer.

Activate instrument cluster function sequence  The following activities or condition changes activate the instrument cluster: - Driver door open or closed - Standing lights or low beams on - Circuit 15R On - Pressing the instrument illumination variable resistor (A1r1) - User input at the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) - Unlocking vehicle with transmitter key if ambient illumination is activated.

Upon activation, the background illumination of the upper multifunction display and lower multifunction display and the scale illumination of the instrument cluster switch on automatically.

Additional function requirements for indicator lamp test  Circ. 15 ON

Indicator lamp test function sequence  Upon circuit 15 ON, the following indicator lamps are activated in the instrument cluster for test purposes: Fuel reserve warning light (A1e4) - Brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7) - Airbag indicator and warning light (A1e15) - ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) - ESP warning lamp (A1e41) - Engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58)

The indicator lamp test is only deactivated when the engine is started (circuit 61 ON).

The following indicator lamps are not tested:  Left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) - Right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) - High beam indicator lamp (A1e3) - Seat belt warning lamp (A1e9)
