The engine speed in rpm is recorded by the crankshaft position sensor (L5).

The signals from the crankshaft position sensor (L5) are read in by the motor electronics control unit (N3/10) and placed on the Controller Area Network bus class C (CAN-C).

The instrument cluster (A1) receives these CAN-signals and actuates the stepper motor of the tachometer (A1p5).

IMPORTANT With implausible CAN signals the pointer of the tachometer (A1p5) is controlled to the left end of the scale. In addition a fault is stored in the fault memory of the instrument cluster (A1).
